lesser yellowlegs
A trimmed down, quieter version of the Greater Yellowlegs, this species would be fairly unremarkable if not for its namesake bright yellow legs. Preferring still marsh pools and edges to open mudflats, Lesser Yellowlegs can be tough to find on the beach unless you are looking in the right habitat. Unlike its larger cousin, Lesser Yellowlegs do not usually linger late in the fall, and are uncommon spring migrants on Plymouth Beach.
