Plymouth Beach is an important breeding and nesting site for threatened and endangered coastal shorebirds. The barrier beach is also a critical migratory stopover site. Over 20,000 migratory shorebirds use Plymouth Beach as a ”fuel stop” to put on weight before continuing their long distance migrations throughout the hemisphere.

Ocean Tidal Flats Sandy Beach Dunes Salt Marsh
Click on the habitats above to see the Birds of Plymouth Beach diving for fish in the Ocean waters of Cape Cod Bay and Plymouth Harbor, foraging on the Tidal Flats, nesting on the Beach or in the Dunes, and resting at high tide in shallow Salt Marsh. The Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program of MDFW has designated the entire length of Plymouth barrier beach as Rare Species Habitat.
