Attentive beach goers and morning walkers will know the song of this sparrow, which is common year-round throughout the dunes and beach scrub. Some begin singing in late February, and continue through late July. Song Sparrows raise as many as four broods in a single breeding season. In winter, local residents are joined by migrants from further north and inland, competing with other sparrows and finches for the beach's seed and berry crop. |
