The Northern Mockingbird is one of the most prolific singers of the bird world, capable of mimicking the songs of dozens of other species of birds and practicing its repertoire for hours at a time. This species was not common in Massachusetts until the 1960s and today continues to expand its range northward. Mockingbirds are very territorial. They aggressively defend their nests from intruders as well as the bushes with berries that allow them to overwinter. |
