The Savannah Sparrow is a small, rather elusive, grey-brown bird that nests on the ground in beach grass. It is paler than a Song Sparrow and has a small splash of yellow feathers on its lores between the eyes and bill. During the winter months, a very pale-colored migratory race of this sparrow, known as the "Ipswich Sparrow", may be seen hopping along the toe of the dunes and tidal wrack. |
